It’s the fourth instalment of the alternative travel guide and we’re en route to en croute in Wigan!

Your Tour Guide for this episode is the fab Allyson June Smith, a stand-up from Canada.

She’s now based in Manchester and has developed an insatiable thirst for all things pie, so it was only natural that we visited the world’s pie capital – Wigan.

Warning – Do Not Listen To This Podcast Whilst Hungry – It gets pretty graphic.

We meet up with Martin Tarbuck, a bonafide ‘Pie Expert’, the author of a book called ‘Life of Pies’, a quest to find Britain’s best pie. It took him two years to write and 400 pies were munched during the making of the book.

Martin takes us for the best pie Wigan has to offer and teaches us the techniques to eat a pie the correct way – with your hands!

Along the way we ride on a quintessential British locomotive, find out what George Orwell and Uncle Joe has to do with the town and discover what else, other than delicious pie, makes Wigan a great place to visit.
